How long
will this slowdown continue?
The
duration of the slowdown will largely depend on how long the war lasts and the
extent of the damage it causes.
How long
will this war continue?
We do not
believe in predicting such events. However, the longer the conflict persists,
the greater the potential damage. Investors should therefore stay alert and
adjust their strategy as the situation unfolds.
Is this
the time to sell?
Unless
there is an urgent need for funds, long-term investors should avoid becoming
net sellers during such phases.
What if
it turns into a nuclear war?
Paradoxically,
that could turn out to be the most attractive time to invest in equities. If we
survive, the potential returns could be enormous; if we do not, money would
serve little purpose anyway.
Is it the
right time to invest?
History
shows that the sharper the fall in markets, the stronger the rebound once
normalcy returns. Since it is difficult to predict the duration and severity of
the war, a prudent approach would be to invest gradually in 3–4 tranches,
depending on your risk profile.
Which
sectors look promising?
Sectors
that appear promising today could also face challenges if the war drags on for
long. Nevertheless, the following sectors appear worth exploring for investment
opportunities:
·
Automobiles, especially
two-wheelers
·
Auto component
manufacturers
·
Power sector (generation,
transmission and distribution)
·
FMCG
·
Electrical cables
· Defence and space
What is
your personal view about this war?
Most
countries today are highly indebted and are unlikely to sustain prolonged,
expensive wars. While it is impossible to say with complete certainty, it
appears likely that this conflict may eventually end with limited damage.
